Pfizer-BioNTech said Thursday that it is starting clinical trials of its Covid-19 vaccine in pregnant women, the first such trials to consist of expectant mothers in the U.S.

The drugmaker aims to enlist about 4,000 pregnant ladies in the trials, which will consist of participants in the U.S. as well as Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Mozambique, South Africa, Spain and the U.K. Females over 18 and who are 24 to 34 weeks into their pregnancy will be qualified.

The first dosages will be administered in the U.S., Pfizer stated.

There is, nevertheless, proof that Covid-19 itself might be detrimental to expectant moms.
