Wow, you people.
Simply … wow.
Dealing with severe backlash for the way he has actually handled a race-based controversy on Season 25 of The Bachelor, Chris Harrison revealed on Saturday that he’s going back as host.
” I have spent the last few days listening to the discomfort my words have caused, and I am deeply sorry,’ wrote Harrison on Instagram.
” My ignorance did damage to my buddies, associates and complete strangers alike.
” I have nobody to blame however myself for what I said and the way I spoke.”
To what, exactly, is Harrison referring here?
Candidate Rachael Kirkconnell has actually been at the center of a continuous scandal after images emerged online of the Season 25 preferred attending a plantation-themed celebration.
She also Liked images of the Confederate Flag in the past and was implicated of a previous high school schoolmate of maltreating Black trainees.
Kirkconnell has actually because confessed her actions were “racist,” stated she was “incorrect” and has actually promised to do better.
She said these words not long after Harrison got in trouble for what he said about Rachael in an inteview with ex-Bachelorette lead Rachel Lindsay.
” I haven’t spoken with Rachael about it, we all require to have a little grace, a little understanding, a little compassion,” he stated at that time.
” I have seen some stuff online. Again, this judge, jury, executioner thing where people are just tearing this girl’s life apart …”
” Till I in fact hear this woman have an opportunity to speak, who am I to say any of this …”
Harrison continued in his evident defense of Rachael participating in “Old South” celebrations:
” I saw a picture of her at a sorority celebration five years ago that’s it … My guess?”
” These ladies got dressed up and went to a party and had a fun time, they were 18 years of ages.”
” Now, does that make it OK? I do not understand Rachel, you tell me.”
Harrison ended up excusing the insensitive nature of his remarks, but it referred too little, too late in the eyes of lots of.
For the very first time in series history, The Bachelor suitors got together to condemn any and all defenses of racism in the wake of Kirkconnell’s behavior.
That, and Harrison’s uncomfortable, bumbling response.
Now he’s out, and attempting to explain himself.
” I set requirements for myself, and need to meet them,” he said.
” I feel that with every fiber of my being. Now just as I taught my children to stand, and to own their actions, I will do the very same.”
” By excusing historic racism, I defended it. I conjured up the term ‘woke cops,’ which is undesirable.”
” I repent over how uninformed I was. I was so incorrect.”
” To the Black community, to the BIPOC neighborhood: I am so sorry. My words were harmful.”
” I am listening, and I really apologize for my lack of knowledge and any discomfort it caused you.”
” I want to provide my wholehearted thanks to the people from these neighborhoods who I’ve had informing discussions with over the past couple of days, and I am so grateful to those who have reached out to assist me on my course to anti-racism.”
Following her chat with Harrison, Lindsay hinted highly this week that she was sick of being connected with The Bachelor franchise.
And this is all occurring, of course, with Matt James, the show’s first-ever Black lead, as the focus of each episode.
Wrote Harrison today:
” The historic season of The Bachelor must not be marred or eclipsed by my mistakes or decreased by my actions.”
” To that end, I have talked to Warner Bros. and ABC and will be stepping aside for a period of time and will not sign up with for the After the Last Rose special.”
It does not sound as if Harrison will appear again this season, and no replacement has actually been announced.
” I want to guarantee our cast and team members, to my good friends, colleagues and our fans: this is not just a minute, however a commitment to much greater understanding that I will actively make every day,” he concluded.
” From here I can just attempt to progress and be a much better guy, and I simple myself prior to all of you.
” I hope I will once again measure up to the expectations you all rightfully have for me and the expectations I have for myself.”
Again, wow. And this situation is even crazier when you see how the season allegedly ends (see gallery above).
